FAQ

The Stripe Fee Calculator is a bargain at just $8.99/mo inc. GST! Think of it this way: it's basically what you'd pay Stripe in fees for a job worth $436.50. So, after one job of that size, the add-on pays for itself. From then on, it's all upside! Your hard-earned cash stays in your pocket, where it belongs.

If you're an Aussie small business raking in $10K to $20K a month, that could mean saving $200 to $400 monthly. Our Kiwi friends? You could see savings of $300 to $600 a month.

So yeah, we reckon it's a win-win!

** The add-on is still currently going through the ServiceM8 review and approval process. Once it is approved, it will be released for general access **

Once it is approved you can get the add-on by heading into the ServiceM8 Add-on Store in your ServiceM8 account settings page. Too easy.

The add-on uses the following formula to calculate the adjusted amount: Proposed Invoice Total = (Original Invoice + Transaction Fee) / (1 - Percentage Fees)

Using an example:

  1. Original Invoice: $100
  2. Stripe Percentage Fee: 2.9% (0.029)
  3. ServiceM8 Percentage Fee: 0.2% (0.002)
  4. Stripe Transaction Fee: $0.30
  5. Proposed Invoice Total = (100 + 0.30) / (1 - 0.031) ≈ $103.515 (rounded to $103.51)

With this Proposed Invoice Total of $103.51, after Stripe and ServiceM8 deducts their fees, you would receive an amount very close to the original invoice amount of $100. The calculated fee in this case is $3.51.

Ah, our famous "Stripe-Calc" material! We fussed over this – how were we to add the fee into a job. The solution was to have the add-on create it's own material. The first time you use the add-on, it creates the Stripe-Calc material in your ServiceM8 system with the code "Stripe-Calc" and the name "Stripe Fee". From then on, it'll always look for this material code before applying your Stripe fees.

Changed or deleted "Stripe-Calc"? No worries! The add-on will recreate it for you. Feel free to change its name to something more descriptive, like "Stripe transaction fee X.XX% + $0.30" to clarify how the fee was calculated. Just keep the item number as "Stripe-Calc" and you're good to go.

In a nutshell, "Stripe-Calc" is the add-on's way to always have an available material on–hand so it can apply Stripe fees to your jobs.

We are rolling out the Stripe Fee Calculator on a country-by-country basis, first with Australia and New Zealand, and then other countries thereafter. For Aussies, the Stripe Fee Calculator (AU) edition will automatically account for the 10% GST for Australian transactions. And for Kiwi businesses, the (NZ) edition will do the same while using 15% GST for transactions.

Also, some of you like to use ServiceM8 with pricing set to Tax Exclusive, while others prefer it Tax Inclusive. Either way, the add-on shows both GST-inclusive and GST-exclusive Stripe fees to help you keep your accounting crystal clear. Just a heads-up: If you switch between Tax Inclusive and Tax Exclusive views in ServiceM8, make sure to close and save the job card before using the Stripe Fee Calculator, to avoid any hiccups.

And hey, always double-check those line items before sending off an invoice, alright?

Hey, we get it—sometimes life throws you curveballs, or in this case, maybe a cent off! While our calculator is pretty darn accurate, occasional discrepancies of about $0.01 can happen due to rounding in ServiceM8 or the add-on itself.  Don't forget, ServiceM8 adds its own fee on top of the Stripe fees. By default we have included them but you have the option to exclude them if you want. If you're using a supported accounting platform like Xero, QuickBooks Online, or MYOB, we strongly recommend turning on the Stripe Fee reconciliation setting in ServiceM8 (go: Settings > Preferences > Invoicing > Stripe setting area).

At the end of the day, our tool is an estimator. While we strive for accuracy, we can't guarantee it'll match Stripe's actual charges to the cent.

Good question! After you hit that "Apply Stripe fee to the job" button, our add-on gets to work and adds a new line item to your job card under the code "Stripe-Calc". It also pops a confirmation note in your job diary. But here's the catch: you'll need to close and reopen the job card to see this new fee if you're on desktop. Mobile users usually don't face this issue. It's just a little quirk when using ServiceM8 add-ons via API. 😉

There's also another scenario where the Stripe fee might play hide-and-seek: If you've been toggling between Tax Inclusive and Tax Exclusive views in the Quotes & Invoicing section. If that's you, make sure to close and save the job card before using the Stripe Fee Calculator add-on.

And hey, a quick reminder: always double-check your material line items before generating a quote or invoice. Better safe than sorry!

No, there were some limitations we could not overcome, so in the meantime you'll need to kill that browser tab yourself.

Simply put, no. The add-on requires an active data connection to the internet.

If you are seeing this, it is likely because

  1. You are using the add-on from the desktop Dispatch Board. Close and reopen the job card, and you'll see the  calculation summary in the job diary
  2. The 'Save result to Job Diary' was left unchecked.

We've set the fees to default to the most likely rates set by Stripe for your country/ region at the time of release. These fees may change over time, and we may from time to time update them.

In the meantime, manually change the values prior to performing the calculation.

While we have taken every care and effort to create this add-on, as with any technology there comes a risk of data loss. By subscribing to and using any of our add-ons, you are agreeing to our Terms and ConditionsEnd User License Agreement, and our Privacy Policy. Please read them carefully.
