Stripe Fee Calculator add-on

Stripe is a convenient and fast way to get paid. But their transaction fees can very quickly add up.

Would you like to estimate how much to add to an invoice so the customer absorbs the fee instead?

With the Stripe Fee Calculator add-on

  • Works with ServiceM8 iOS app or desktop Dispatch Board.
  • Easily calculate the estimated Stripe transaction fee.
  • Automatically use the job’s current invoice amount, or use a custom amount.
  • Choose to include ServiceM8’s fee on top of the Stripe fees.
  • Run calculations multiple times with different invoice amounts.
  • Save calculations into the job diary for future reference.

This add-on provides a convenient way to estimate Stripe fees for guideline purposes only, and will not change or modify actual job invoice amounts.

Please check your local legal obligations with regards to passing on fees and surcharges to your customers.

FAQ

The add-on uses the following formula to calculate the adjusted amount: Proposed Invoice Total = (Original Invoice + Transaction Fee) / (1 - Percentage Fees)

Using an example:

  1. Original Invoice: $100
  2. Stripe Percentage Fee: 2.9% (0.029)
  3. ServiceM8 Percentage Fee: 0.2% (0.002)
  4. Stripe Transaction Fee: $0.30
  5. Proposed Invoice Total = (100 + 0.30) / (1 - 0.031) ≈ $103.515 (rounded to $103.51)

With this Proposed Invoice Total of $103.51, after Stripe and ServiceM8 deducts their fees, you would receive an amount very close to the original invoice amount of $100. The calculated fee in this case is $3.51.

The add-on is an estimation tool and we do not guarantee that the results will always perfectly match the actual charges you may incur from Stripe.

ServiceM8 also adds its own fee on top of the Stripe fees. By default we have included them given you are using ServiceM8. But you also have the option to exclude them from the calculation if you want.

The add-on was deliberately designed to not create or modify material line items in the invoicing section of the job card, as we feel the updating of material line items is something you should do directly.

We suggest you initially create a material item with an item code of 'Stripe' and an item name of 'Credit Card transaction fee' or similar. Then add that material to your job, and update the item price using the Estimated Stripe Fee value. Your invoice total should match the proposed invoice total from the calculator. Then reuse that same material item for other jobs, updating the price each time.

To help you, we've included a handy "Copy Estimated Stripe Fee to Clipboard" button in the results screen to make it easier for you with do that.

No, there were some limitations we could not overcome, so in the meantime you'll need to kill that browser tab yourself.

Simply put, no. The add-on requires an active data connection to the internet.

If you are seeing this, it is likely because

  1. You are using the add-on from the desktop Dispatch Board. Close and reopen the job card, and you'll see the  calculation summary in the job diary
  2. The 'Save result to Job Diary' was left unchecked.

We've set the fees to default to the most likely rates set by Stripe for your country/ region at the time of release. These fees may change over time, and we may from time to time update them.

In the meantime, manually change the values prior to performing the calculation.

While we have taken every care and effort to create this add-on, as with any technology there comes a risk of data loss. By subscribing to and using any of our add-ons, you are agreeing to our Terms and ConditionsEnd User License Agreement, and our Privacy Policy. Please read them carefully.
